Timor Sea Oilfields

The earliest production in Timor Sea commenced from the Jabiru Venture in the early 1980’s followed soon by Challis and Skua. More recently, Laminaria/Corallina and Buffalo are also producing.

Several marginal fields have been discovered in the Ashmore and Cartier Islands Adjacent Area. These fields are Tenacious, Oliver, Montara, Bilyara, Tahbilk and Talbot. The Brewster structure is also a marginal field, located south of the Ashmore and Cartier Islands Adjacent Area. Proposals to develop these fields would be driven by emerging technological advances, the economic climate, crude oil prices or the discovery of a "critical mass" of oil or gas reserves.

Estimated remaining oil reserves in the Timor Sea are about 60 to 80 million barrels of oil, condensate and liquid petroleum gas (LPG).

For further information on oilfields in the Timor Sea, read the Timor Sea oil and gas fact sheets or other oil and gas publications.
