Santos should give thanks to the patron saint of the oil and gas business -- the company is Australia's largest onshore oil and gas producer, meeting about a third of domestic gas needs. An independent exploration and production firm, Santos has proved reserves of 724 million barrels of oil equivalent. The company produces 56 million barrels of gas, ethane, oil, and gas liquid a year. It also has interests in a coal production company. The Cooper/Eromanga basins in Central Australia hold the company's core reserves. Santos has interests in all the major oil basins in Australia, including offshore. Santos also operates in Southeast Asia and in the US, where it acquired Texas-based Esenjay Exploration in 2002.
